The Magic of Moving Water
The Positive of Negative Ions

Water Can Be Moving
This morning I went for a walk to Curtis Falls, on Mount Tamborine. Have been working hard over the last few weeks, and spending time in nature, and particularly around waterfalls can have a positive effect.
Moving water can have a moving effect on our mental and physical health, helping to shift and improve our mood, reduce stress, and increase energy levels.
Seeing moving water, the crashing of waves upon the shore, or water falling, as in a waterfall or a sudden rain storm can dramatically shift our stagnant energy.

Breathing In The Negativity
Whenever water collides with itself, as in a waterfall, negative ions are released. Negative ions are atoms or molecules that have gained an extra electron, giving them a negative charge.
Waterfalls are recognised as a natural source of negative ions, which are electrically charged particles that can have positive impact on our well being. This is often referred to as the “waterfall effect”.

Energy In Motion
Should we really be surprised that moving water can stir our emotions?
After all, moving water, like our emotions, are “energy in motion”.
Often when we feel stuck, or in a rut, when we keep thinking the same thoughts, one way to break this cycle is to physically move or even better, to spend time in nature and around bodies of moving water.

Petrichor
Petrichor, the earthy smell after rain, is linked to negative ions, which are odorous, invisible molecules, and their release when raindrops hit the ground, potentially contribute to a sense of well-being.
Have you ever felt a sense of calmness and well being, after a storm?
This may be due to the negative ions both in the air and rain.
Rain, specifically the splashing and movement of water, produces negative ions, a phenomenon known as the Lenard effect, where water droplets collide and create a charge disparity, with negatively charged ions being abundant in the surrounding air.
Next time you are feeling stressed, anxious or uninspired, go visit a waterfall, or walk along the beach, breathe in the surrounding negative ions and be positively inspired.
