Church of the Exaltation de la Ste-Croix | Bailly-Le-Franc

The Church of the Exaltation de la Ste-Croix in Bailly-le-Franc is one of three timber-framed churches that we visited as we journeyed through France on our pilgrimage.

Timber Framed Church

There are a total of ten churches and a chapel in this style of architecture between Der and the Forest d’Orient.

This building was probably built towards the end of the 16th century and is very similar architecturally to that in Lentilles previously shown.

It is smaller in size than Lentilles but has a beautiful atmosphere. The church was left open to encourage pilgrims and other visitors to enter and admire the history of this church.

Stillness

The stillness of the church combined with the quietness of the village has stayed in my memory. The exquisite painting of the Virgin Mary caught my eye as I sat quietly in the church for a few minutes to cool down and enjoy the tranquility.
