St James and St Phillip Church | Lentilles | France
Wooden Framed Churches
St James and St Phillip Church in the little village of Lentilles is a beautiful example of timber-framed churches. There are a total of ten churches and a chapel in this style of architecture between Der and the Forest d’Orient.
St James
There are references to St James as it is on the Via Francigena pilgrim route from Rome to Santiago de Compostella in Spain.
As you approach the front of the church there is a statue above the porch with Saint James holding his staff.
Inside there is a dedicated statue s well as a large shell for holy water.
We finished one day of our walks sheltered within the cool interior of the church out of the blazing afternoon sun.
Place of Refuge
The last image shows Denise one of the fellow pilgrims taking a well deserved afternoon nap on the cold stone porch. Most of us took advantage to lay down outside the church on stone cold comfort.
